How do I sign up as a trainer?

Download the Tearn app and select "Join as a Trainer" during registration. You'll be asked to provide your name, email, a profile photo, a bio describing your experience, the skills you teach, your hourly rate, and your availability. Once submitted, our team reviews your application — including a background check — typically within 2–3 business days. You'll receive an email notification when your trainer profile is approved and live on the platform.

How does payment work?

All payments are processed securely through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment provider. When you book a session as a student, you pay the trainer's listed rate at the time of booking. Tearn deducts a small platform fee, and the remainder is held until the session is completed. Trainers receive their earnings via Stripe Connect, with payouts typically processed within 7 days of session completion. Tearn never stores your raw card details — Stripe handles all sensitive payment data.

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes. Students can cancel a booking through the app at any time. If you cancel at least 24 hours before the session start time, you'll receive a full refund. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, a 50% refund is issued and the remaining 50% goes to the trainer as compensation for their reserved time. If you do not show up for a session without canceling, no refund is issued. Trainers may also cancel sessions, in which case students always receive a full refund.

How are trainers verified?

Every trainer who applies to the Tearn platform undergoes an identity verification and background check process before their profile goes live. Trainers must provide accurate information about their skills and credentials — misrepresentation is grounds for permanent removal. We also display verified badges for trainers who have completed additional credential checks. While we take reasonable steps to verify trainers, we encourage students to review profiles, ratings, and session history before booking.

What happens if a trainer cancels?

If a trainer cancels a confirmed booking, you as the student will receive a full refund automatically to your original payment method. Refunds typically appear within 5–10 business days depending on your bank or card issuer. The cancellation is also recorded on the trainer's account. Trainers with repeated cancellations may face account restrictions. You'll receive an in-app notification and email confirmation as soon as the cancellation and refund are processed.

Is Tearn available in my area?

Tearn is currently launching in the United States. Trainer availability varies by region — some trainers offer in-person sessions within a specific radius, while others offer virtual sessions that are available nationwide. When you search for trainers, you can filter by location, skill, and whether the trainer offers virtual or in-person sessions. If you don't see trainers in your area yet, join our beta waitlist and we'll notify you when Tearn expands to your region.
